Civil Unions Update (S.B. 30): Next Steps

DFPC

Important Update: Civil Unions Passed the Delaware Senate Yesterday

"We are delighted by the expected results from yesterday's counterfeit marriage vote!  It is now crystal clear and on the record who will be targeted for replacement in 2012!"  said Nicole Theis when interviewed shortly after civil unions passed through the Delaware Senate.

The bill now goes to the Delaware House of Representatives for consideration.

Austin NimocksDFPC attorney Austin Nimocks, Sr. Legal Counsel with the Alliance Defense Fund, stated the facts that S.B. 30, the civil unions bill, will lead to same-sex marriage in Delaware either by the courts or by the demands of activists who support it.

There was no denying the facts!  Even the attorney for S.B. 30 supporters defined  dissolution of a civil union, a DIVORCE, as stated in the bill. The language of the Delaware marriage law is the same language of S.B. 30.  Get this; S.B. 30 gives the word "civil union" the same definition as marriage in regards to rights (including parental rights), benefits, and protection. S.B. 30 is marriage in all but name. This bill has a 100% track record of leading to demands for same-sex marriage.

Bottom line is, the Senate ignored the facts.

NOW is our time. We must urge the House to vote NO on S.B. 30! Find another way that does not redefine marriage!

Please donate whatever you can, $10, $25, $100, or whatever you can to help us defend marriage in Delaware and continue the fight in the House of Representatives. The battle is now and the bill will be in committee in the house on Wednesday at 2pm.

If you can make it to the hearing, we suggest you get there at 12:30 to get a seat. The House chamber is on the left as you enter Legislative Hall. Be prepared. Bring your ID, some $ for water or snacks, something soft to sit on AND a friend.

If you want to be heard and give testimony about this bill, the hearing on Wednesday is the only time to do it. This is it. Please contact me if you want to testify and send your 2-minute testimony for review.  We can help you avoid some traps. nicole@delawarefamilies.org

Please understand our position: we have compassion for the needs expressed by the opposition.  We know there are other ways to address their concerns than to take Delaware down this path of redefining marriage.  Other states have already accomplished this.

Friend we need you to call your representatives. This is our last chance to influence the men and women we have elected to represent our views.

Next Steps:

The House vote is expected on Thursday, April 14th. If you live in Kent and New Castle Counties we suggest contacting your Representative for a meeting before Thursday. Take your Pastor &/or a friend. If you are at Legislative Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday from noon to 2pm, you may catch your Representative for a quick

meeting. Use the talking points provided in this email.

3. Call these Representatives to urge them to VOTE NO on S.B. 30.

The message is this: We want you to vote NO on S.B.30! Please explore other options, DO NOT take us down this path of redefining marriage. A vote for civil unions IS a vote for same-sex marriage. Please explore other options! At the very least, let US vote on it!
