Extremes Kill: Rep. Gabrielle Giffords shot on this altar…

It seems that on both extremes of political argument in the Great American Experiment, there are extremist nut jobs who, because of their inability to articulate a convincing argument, or mental illness, or both, take their beliefs to a higher level than one who understands the limits of political debate.
Whether you are on her side of the issues or not, whether you vehemently disagree with her or not, taking her life does not diminish her political influence, but rather inflames it. Martyrdom has always been the strongest political or religious tool in the history of human culture. If this crime was committed as a political act by a right wing group, there is only one word to describe it in a political sense: “stupid.” Therefore, it strains the imagination to contemplate a concerted effort by an organized group from the right.
On the other hand, it has been suggested, that the far left may be behind it as well. That is also not a plausible argument, given the current political climate, she is likely to be replaced with someone far more conservative.
No, Gabrielle Giffords was likely the victim of a right-wing nut job, in the same spirit as the left-wing nut job Unabomber Ted Kaczynski. Kaczynski was not being instructed to kill people by the far left. Only a crazy person could interpret Al Gore’s book, “Earth in the Balance,” as a manifesto to go out and kill people.
In the wake of this senseless tragedy, let us not do what the shooter intended. Let us morn as a nation of one people. Let us, from both sides, take an immovable position of anti-terrorism. Let us keep to our senses and rail against any rhetoric that blames ether side.
